Guidance and support around Coronavirus. St Helens and District is currently operating under the "Bringing everyone back together safely framework" we are currently at a Readiness Level of Red. We not are allowing face to face meetings, in line with the National Youth Agency guidance. However, our leaders are working remotely to provide all essential services. Read more here

District Team

The District Commissioner and their team, run scouting across St Helens and District. They are here to support Scouting in the District with events and activities. As well as support all our Leaders and Managers to offer the adventure of Scouting to all our young people.

Chris Valentine-Burrows
District Commissioner

The role of the District Commissioner is to ensure that the District thrives and has the best systems in place to support all adult volunteers including production of a vision for the development of Scouting in St Helens. The District Commissioner is also ultimately responsible for making Scouting attractive to young people and adults from all backgrounds, while creating an adequate team of supported and appropriate adults working effectively together and with others to meet the Scouting needs of the area. The District Commissioner is the line manager for all managers within St Helens as well as the support point for anyone with a challenge.

Deputy District Commissioner – People

The Deputy District Commissioner – People is responsible for assisting the District Commissioner with ensuring that all the Leadership across the District as the tools they need to carry out their roles. This includes, training, recruiting, and developing our adult volunteers.

Assistant District Commissioner – People

The Assistant District Commissioner – People assists the Deputy District Commissioner, with ensuring that all the Leadership across the District as the tools they need to carry out their roles. This includes, training, recruiting, and developing our adult volunteers.

District Scouter - People

The District Scouter – People assists the Deputy District Commissioner by focusing tailored training with new leaders aged 18-30 to ensure they are welcomed and supported in their Leadership role.

Deputy District Commissioner – Programme

The Deputy District Commissioner – Programme is responsible for reviewing and reinvigorating the Districts Programme of activities and events. The DDC Programme also works with the section leaders to support them on offering the adventure of Scouting to all our young people.

Assistant District Commissioner – Programme

The Assistance District Commissioner – Programme assists the Deputy District Commissioner with reviewing and reinvigorating the Districts Programme of activities and events. The DDC Programme also works with the section leaders to support them on offering the adventure of Scouting to all our young people

Les Rowe
Deputy District Commissioner – Support

The Deputy District Commissioner – Support is responsible for maintaining our buildings and equipment, planning district wide events, and offers advice on the development of our resources. The DDC Support works closely with the District Executive to protect and invest in the Districts valuable resources.

District Scout Network Commissioners

The District Scout Network Commissioner is the Manager of the Scout Network Section and is responsible for proactively enabling Scout Network members to shape and participate in the programme of Activities aimed at supporting the members and community. The District Scout Network Commissioner is also responsible for linking with Explorer units to ensure continuity of members as well as greater co-operation.

District Explorer Scout Commissioner

The District Explorer Scout Commissioner is the Manager of the Explorer Scout Section and is responsible for proactively enabling Explorer Scout members to shape and participate in the programme of Activities aimed at supporting the members and community. The District Explorer Scout Commissioner is also responsible for linking with Scout groups to ensure continuity of members as well as greater co-operation.

Assistant District Commissioner – Scouts

The Assistant District Commissioner – Scouts, assists Group Scout Leaders in the encouragement of all Leaders in the Section to provide a balanced programme, work in partnership with Deputy District Commissioner Programme in the management of the District Section’s programme and activities, The Assistant District Commissioner Scouts maintains contacts relevant to the Section age group with in the local community, promote the Section’s Scouting to the local community.

Assistant District Commissioner – Cubs

The Assistant District Commissioner – Cubs assists Group Scout Leaders in the encouragement of all Leaders in the Section to provide a balanced programme, work in partnership with Deputy District Commissioner Programme in the management of the District Section’s programme and activities, The Assistant District Commissioner Cubs maintains contacts relevant to the Section age group with in the local community, promote the Section’s Scouting to the local community.

Assistant District Commissioner – Beavers

The Assistant District Commissioner – Beavers assists Group Scout Leaders in the encouragement of all Leaders in the Section to provide a balanced programme, work in partnership with Deputy District Commissioner Programme in the management of the District Section’s programme and activities, The Assistant District Commissioner Beavers maintains contacts relevant to the Section age group with in the local community, promote the Section’s Scouting to the local community.

Local Training Manager

The Local Training Manager is responsible for ensuring the provision of suitable training in St Helens so that all adults in Scouting completing a personal learning plan have access to suitable learning opportunities using a variety of methods. The Local Training Manger is also responsible for appointing and assigning new members a Training Adviser. The Training Advisor will work one to one to guide new members through the joining and training process.

District Magazine Editor

The District Magazine Editor will seek out and identify local good news stories happening in Scouting and promote these to the local Media as well as regularly promote the image of modern Scouting organisation.

Deputy District Commissioner (Perception)

The role of Perception Manager is to lead and manage the perception team, within the team we work with anything digital that includes the website, Social Media or our various other apps. The Perception Manager is also to support growth within the District.

Web Lead

The Web Lead looks after the website in the background, giving support the Perception Team and supporting any web based apps we have.

Wes Sloane
Social Media Lead

The Social Media lead manages all our social media accounts.

Rob Dobson
IT Lead

The IT Lead is in charge of Email based services, support the website in the background and with content, to actively manage our Online Scout Manager District account and role it out to all groups.

Content Team

The Content Team’s role is to build our following on our Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter etc and the share stories, pictures and blogs on the website.
