Becoming an adult volunteer
There are many different types of roles within Scouting – youth leadership, assistants, trustees, instructors, administrators, managers to name a few. For each role there is a defined appointments process that must be followed as part of our commitment to Safeguarding.
For youth leadership, management and support roles this includes a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, two references must be provided from people who are not family members, and a meeting with a small panel from the Appointments Advisory Committee to ensure you understand the role you are applying for and accept the policies of the Scout association.
Upcoming Appointment Advisory Committee Meeting Dates
The upcoming Appointment Advisory Committee panel meetings are:
Appointment Review Dates
Adult appointments in Scouting last for a maximum of 5 years before a formal review is required. If you are due to review your role, please begin this process in advance of the review date to ensure you can continue in your role into the future. The Appointments Secretary will send reminders and advice to help you and your manager in this process.
Changing Your Role
Volunteers may wish to change role from time-to-time due to growing experience, a shift in interest, changes in availability, or just being interested in a new challenge. Volunteers are advised to discuss this with their current line manager and identify the role that is currently right for them.
Notifying the Appointments Secretary
Notification of changes to appointments – reviews, changes of role and closing roles – need to be notified to the Appointments Secretary at appointments at sthelensscouts dot org dot uk.
