Clock Face Scouts put out an ‘SOS’
One of the oldest Scout Groups in St Helens has put out an urgent appeal for adult volunteers.
The Clock Face Group based at their own Headquarters just off Leach Lane, has provided the fun of Scouting to hundreds of local boys and girls for over 50 years, but now the Scouts are putting out an SOS – ‘Save Our Scouts’ plea to the adults of Sutton and Clock Face to come forward and volunteer a little of their time to help keep the Group open.
Sam, a 10 year old Scout says “I hope our Scouts keep going because of the fun we have playing games and going on trips. My favourite game is Hurricanes and Spitfires.”
Chris Williams, St Helens District Commissioner added “Across St Helens we have over 250 young people waiting to join one of our groups but we need additional adult volunteers to allow us to take on more youngsters. We operate a flexible volunteering scheme which allows adults to give as much or as little time as they can. Like Scouting’s most famous volunteer, the Duchess of Cambridge, who will help out at groups close to where she lives, adults can help when their busy lives allow, becoming part of a bigger team who together make Scouting work. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about Scouting – all you need is a desire to inspire children and to have fun.”
“The Clock Face Group needs volunteers to help the existing leaders re-start the Beaver Colony and support the Cub and Scout sections by giving an hour or two of their spare time when they can. They could work directly with the children or help with fund raising and administration.”
“I would urge any adult who would like to get involved, to give me a call on St Helens 750702 (from 4.30pm) to see how we could work together to ensure this Group continues to provide Scouting for the youngsters of Clock Face for the next 50 years!”
